Albany physician will run for mayor

May 23, 2003

Albany- Long-time Albany physician Dr. Willie Adams kicked off his campaign. He says he'll focus on promoting tourism, creating jobs and attracting new industry. Adams says he will not focus on race. He just wants people to vote for the best person for the job.

Mayor Tommy Coleman says he'll probably run for re-election, and he also doesn't want the campaign to divide the city along racial lines.

Willie Adams says, "I am looking forward to running.  I believe I could make change in Albany."

Tommy Coleman says, "It's too early to be campaigning, but I will probably run.  I am concentrating on what's going on in Albany right now."

Adams was a Lt. Colonel in the Army. He served on the Dougherty County Board of Education. This is his first bid for mayor.
