ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Voter turnout was surprisingly brisk Monday for the first day of runoff early voting in Dougherty County.  We were in the elections office around 10:30 AM as people filed in to cast their ballots.

If you voted in the primary in July, you have to choose the same party in the runoff.  But if you didn't vote last month, you can pick either party.

On the republican ballot, there are runoffs for Governor, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, and Public Service Commission.

There's also a runoff on the democratic ticket for Secretary of state.Elections workers hope voters won't ignore their civic duty.  Elections Supervisor Ginger Nickerson said, "Optimistic that they will come out.  We're going to set up and do our due diligence to make sure that everybody has access and they're able to come in and cast that ballot that they choose.  All 28 precincts will be open, of course, from seven to seven on election day and in our office Monday through Friday, we'll be here from 8:30 to five."

Early voting is only taking place this week.  If you miss the early vote, all precincts will be open again next Tuesday for the runoff election.
