Midnight Madness hits high school football in south Georgia

MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - Midnight madness usually ushers in the start of college basketball season.


Hundreds of Colquitt County fans lining the practice field in the early morning hours Sunday to watch their Packers hold their first practice of the season.


Rush Propst said. "We have got to have it pretty quick. It is the first time in my 22 years of being a head football coach that I can remember playing seven contests before September 25th.

Colquitt County will scrimmage Lassiter in Moultrie on August 14th and then open the season August 20th at home against Cook High.




Head coach Rush Propst joining schools like Thomas County Central and Bainbridge who hold that first practice in the first hours of the opening day for practice.

Coach Propst likes the cooler temperatures during the early morning hours but wants to make sure his Packers don't waste their first workout of the season.

The Packers have to get ready in a hurry with their first game just 19 days away.



More and more high school football teams are opening their fall practice just after the stroke of 12 o'clock.
