ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Severe weather pounded southwest Georgia Saturday afternoon. Heavy rain, whipping winds, and dangerous lightning moved through the region spawning thunderstorm warnings and watches for several counties.
One of the hardest hit areas is the city of Nicholls in Coffee County.
Strong straight line winds blew through Nicholls around 6:00 p.m. taking down trees. Some fell on homes. A large Oak Tree fell on a double wide and crashed through the roof.
Fire officials say trees fell on at least four homes. Highway 32 was shut down for a short time after a tree fell across the road.
Fortunately, WALB has no reports of any serious injuries.
Strong winds are to blame for several down power lines in Albany. Lines fell in the 300 block of Hudson Lane near Radium Springs Road around 8:30 Saturday night.
Water Gas and Light says about three to 400 customers are without power throughout the city.
