ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Special Olympians from across Georgia are in Albany for a bowling tournament. AMF Bowl-a-Rama on Broad Avenue hosted nearly 200 athletes Friday for the first Strikers' Classic Master's Bowling Invitational.

Athletes 22 and older were allowed to participate.

"We're doing bowling for Special Olympics," said Henry County Bowler Cara Towe.

And is it fun? "Yes ma'am. I love it because I'm good at it."

"For so many of these athletes, Special Olympics is really the highlight of their lives. They get to compete, they get to make new friends, they get to travel and it's so great that we have so many people from all over the state of Georgia that come near and far to Albany this morning," said Kristin Caso of the Albany Recreation and Parks Dept.

Dozens of people assisted the athletes as they participated in the tournament today.
