The school they dreamed of

EDISON, GA (WALB) – Some south Georgia education activists and parents who wanted more school choice are getting what they dreamed of.

In less than two years they organized a new charter school that will serve five rural counties.

Thursday afternoon, Pataula Charter Academy in Calhoun County hosted an open house for parents, students, and curious members of the community.

260 students from K-6 will be in new classrooms at the school starting Monday

"We're going to have a culture built on collaboration, parental involvement, and a very strong code of discipline," Kylie Holley, Principal.

"I'm looking forward to a change and of course when you look forward to a change you look for something better," said Geri Williams, Parent.

Right now, Pataula Academy has 14 teachers, there are plans to expand the school past the sixth grade.
