TIFTON, GA (WALB) –The importance of agriculture was the focus of a conference attended by the governor today.

The UGA conference center in Tifton was full of farmers and others interested in agriculture.

The meeting, which is held every year, is a kick off to an extensive policy development procedure.

The governor spoke about how farmers need to focus not only on their product but on the consumers as well.

"Now what we need to do is look to the consumer and say how do you want that product delivered to you, how would you like it prepared, what would you like it to look like, then grow the product to fit that marketing scheme," said Zippy Duvall, Georgia Farm Bureau President.

Every year someone is awarded the commodity award. This year Senator Hugh Gillis was recognized.
