ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The man investigators think shot an Albany business owner during a robbery was out of jail on bond for other armed robberies. He was supposed to be wearing an electronic monitor when the shooting happened.
We haven't been able to get answers about whether he cut that monitor off, or whether there was a break down in tracking him.
Albany Police announced today they arrested 20-year-old Jordan Harris Tuesday afternoon at an apartment complex on West Gordon Avenue. Surveillance video shows him using Walter Phelps' credit card three hours after Phelps was shot in the back without warning July 3rd at P and P Garden and Hardware Center.
Investigators say this more surveillance video shows Harris and three other men robbing the Lee County Flash Foods in March 2009.
They're accused of three other convenience store robberies that month.
Albany City Manager Al Lott says citizens are tired of violent crime and are helping police.
"It's my understanding they got a lot of help from citizens on this particular case, and many others too. But this one in particular, so this was a community effort to catch these people and lock them up," Lott said.
Harris is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, and gun crimes. Albany Police are still looking for other suspects.
