ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Georgia is one of 19 finalists announced Tuesday in the second phase of the Race to the Top grant competition. Georgia came in third place in the first round in which money was given to Tennessee and Delaware.

The Dougherty County School System is one of 26 in the state that are part of Georgia's application. Governor Sonny Perdue says he looks forward to "celebrating a win" when the awards are given out in September.
