THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) –A south Georgia town is now home to one of the nation's premiere oncology centers.

Archbold's new Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center in Thomasville features start of the art cancer treating technology.

Physicians say more people will come from farther away to take advantage of the Gamma Knife and Trilogy machines.

Those machines specialize in high doses of radiation treatment in very localized spots to keep from killing healthy tissue surrounding tumors.

"With the combination of the Trilogy and Gamma Knife, we are a full body stereo tactic facility," Dr. Steven Johnson, the Director of Radiation Oncology explains. "Which, to be capable of that in a small town setting is remarkable."

Michael Hooks, the Administrator of Oncology Programs added, "It's overwhelming that a center of this magnitude being in Thomasville. It's really tremendous."

The new Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center will begin treating both chemotherapy and radiation patients on Monday, August 2nd.
