12 year old charged in knife throwing incident

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  A 12 year old girl is now charged with aggravated assault for throwing a kitchen knife and slicing her eight year old neighbor.

Albany Police were called to a south Albany home in the 700 block of Crawford Drive a little after nine o'clock Monday night. Police say 8 year old Shavara Gaines was arguing with the 12-year old's brother. The older girl said she worried her brother was being attacked, so she rushed into the house and came back with a knife.

"When she retrieved the knife she just through it out and the victim was struck and sustained a lacerations on her stomach," said Phyllis Banks, Albany Police Media Manager.

Gaines was treated at a hospital and released. The 12-year old was released to her parents.
