ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  The Marine Corps Logistics Base, Maintenance Center Albany, is the manufacturer of the year in southwest Georgia.

The repair facility was nominated by Albany Technical College for generating $350-million dollars in revenue annually. The nomination pointed out that employees serve the community in many ways such as participating in Red Cross blood drives and supporting the Albany Autism Center which was started by a Maintenance Center employee. The center employs 459 contract and 563 temp and term employees. Monday, Commander Col. Terry Reid said the Maintenance Center's relationship with Albany Tech is important to southwest Georgia.

"What the Marines and civilian marine do here is important but again it's not about recognition what we want to do is make sure that our war fighters are getting simply the best equipment available. So when we are recognized it's an outstanding effort here and it's outstanding for them," said Col. Terence Reid, MCLB Maintenance Center Commander.

The Maintenance Center lost out in the statewide competition, but leaders say it's an honor to be put in the same category with Georgia's biggest and best private employers.

The Maintenance Center received 26 letters of support on their application from other Albany agencies.
