Albany --A former Albany parole officer pleads guilty to the sexual battery of a parolee, but receives no jail time.
In a plea agreement, 43-year-old Eldred Byrd pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of sexual battery. Byrd will serve 12 months probation, be fined 500 dollars, and give up his police certification during his probation. Byrd will be allowed to apply for re-certification after completing his sentence.
Byrd had been charged with sexual assault of a person in his custody, a felony. The 11-year parole officer was accused of having sex with a female parolee in the Albany office. He resigned because of the allegations.
Byrd currently works as a counselor at the Albany Area Community Service Board.
