ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It's California or bust for The Ruff Riders track and field program.

20 members from the teams packed into a pair of vans Saturday afternoon to head to Sacramento for the USA National Junior Olympics.

Paul Jones has coached The Albany based team for more than 10 years.

He says this year could be the best team yet. The team features state champions Justin Scott, Sir Paul Jones and Mimi Land.

Jones is looking forward to seeing his stars compete against the Nation's best.

"First of all it means a lot of exposure, the kids going to college it opens up a variety of colleges. Knowing who they are. It moves you from just an ordinary runner to elite status" said Jones.

The contest begins on Tuesday and runs through Sunday next week. Jones says they will drive straight to Sacramento by rotating drivers. They expect to arrive on Monday morning.
