ALBANY, GA (WALB) –An Albany woman forgot she was cooking and left food on the stove when she went to work Friday morning. It ignited a fire that damaged two apartments.

Neighbors at Glenwood Manor apartments on West Gordon Avenue heard windows breaking about 10:45 and saw flames inside Tara Glaze's apartment.

The apartment above her unit sustained smoke damage, but no one was hurt.

Battalion Chief Clarence Haynes said  "The food left on the stove, the fire spread to the walls behind the stove, up the cabinets, across the kitchen. We had fire damage across the kitchen and heavy smoke damage throughout the structure."

Firefighters estimate the damage at $5000.
