ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Most of us can find a place to get out of the sweltering heat and cool off.

Often that's not an option for livestock.

Farm animals like these cows can't go far. Farmer Ernie Ford says he tries not to disturb his herd when it's this hot outside.

There's not much he can do except make sure they have some shade and plenty water.

His animals stay cool pretty well, but other breeds have a harder time,

"English breed of cattle do not have sweat glands so they cool by hassling when you see that cattle with their tongue out that's the way she cools she's not necessarily suffering but that's the way she dispenses heat," said Ernie Ford, Farmer.

Ford says a big part of keeping the animals cool is using common sense and even wetting them down if it gets too hot.
