ALBANY, GA (WALB) – It may seem an unlikely place to learn life lessons, but dozens of young people are visiting a funeral home each week this summer.

J.L. Litman Funeral Home hosts a reading program each summer.  The goal is to give kids positive activities in a safe place to keep them out of trouble.

Former teacher Shirley Litman says it also gives them skills that help them throughout their lives.  She said, "I worked 30 years in the Dougherty County school system and I taught reading and I just love reading and I love children, so I thought there was a need to do this."

This is the 11th year the reading program has taken place at Litman.  The top readers this summer read between 24 and 26 books during the program.
