Dougherty County - The county may raise landfill fees enough to raise $1,000,000 in revenue. The county is considering raising the inert dumping fees from $20 to $2 per ton. Inert trash includes construction debris, rocks, and yard trimmings.

The current fee is far below fees charged by other county landfills. "We have been undervaluing are resource which is air space. So it's time to raise the price a little and right a wrong," said Solid Waste Director Michael McCoy.

If the county commission approves the fee increase, the $1,000,000 raised could be used to expand the landfill in the future.
