ALBANY, GA (WALB) –   Darrell Ealum, who is white, was elected to replace Michael Windom, who is black, in School Board District 6. Ealum faces no opposition in November, and Carol Tharin was the only candidate to take over Emily Jean McAfee's seat.

Milton 'June Bug' Griffin does have a general election challenge from Donnie Smith.

With at least two new members, Chairman David Maschke hopes the new board will work well together.

"I think the key factor is going to be people being able to work together, being willing to listen to each other's ideas and making the best decisions based on real information," said Maschke.

Maschke hopes the new members will bring a new energy to the board. He says they'll have a lot to learn about how the school system operates.

He expects longer serving members to help new members understand the challenges facing the school system.
