Stone retains Dougherty County Commission seat

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Longtime Incumbent Commissioner Jack Stone will keep his District 6 Commission seat.

He defeated Richard Thomas, the leader of the Dougherty County Taxpayers Association and an outspoken critic of local government. Thomas supporters and friends watched and waited for results at Café 230 Tuesday night.

Thomas felt the low voter turnout in Dougherty County hurt his campaign. Jack Stone had a more laid back evening at home after working the polls all day. He wasn't surprised by the results.

"The bottom line is one thing if you do what you're supposed to and represent your people that's what it all boils down to because its so hard to find anyone like that," said Commissioner Jack Stone.

"You're letting 1,100 to 1,200 people make the decision not only for that district but that was a pivotal seat for the county and I think it's really sad there's so much public apathy," said Richard Thomas, Dougherty County Commission Candidate.

Despite the loss Thomas says he feels the taxpayer association got results. Thomas will throw his support behind other Dougherty County Taxpayer Association candidates running for commission and school board in November.
