ALBANY, GA (WALB) –Dougherty County paramedics will soon have a new place to call home.  County commissioners awarded a contract Monday for the construction of a new headquarters building.

It will be built by S.C. Barker Construction for just under $1.5 Million. The new headquarters which will be built at 8th and Palmyra with replacing the cramped location at the corner of 2nd and Jefferson.

EMS Director Bobby Tripp said, "We're out of room, we're having to piece it together now.  It's just wore out.  We have a problem with traffic in the area.  This new site will just be better as far as it will give us more room, give us better access and we'll be able to get out quicker and it will give us a better response time."

The new building has been a long time coming for EMS. The county put off the bid process for more than a year while a new small business program was crafted.
