ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  The Valdosta Wildcats took part in Valdosta State's seven on seven passing tournament on Saturday. Practice begins in two weeks but the Wildcats took full advantage of the opportunity to compete without pads.

The Wildcats missed out on the playoffs last year and new head coach Rance Gillespie is eager to get Valdosta back in the postseason right away. Conditioning is the name of the game in the summer and Gillespie says he's thrilled with the hard work his players have put in during the off season.

"We've had a productive summer. I'm real proud of the work that the kids have put in over the course of the summer. We're starting to understand the offense a little bit better than we did in the spring and we're about to the point where we know where everybody's going and the kids kind of know what's going on so now it's just a situation where we're trying to get everything up fundamentally" said Gillespie.

Valdosta will hold it's first practice on Sunday, August 1st.
