VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Valdosta State football team needs to replace quarterback Kellen Lewis.

Senior Russ Calloway is at the top of the depth chart. He has minimal game experience after spending the last three seasons serving as a back up. Callaway's top competition is coming from Jimmy Coy. The senior transferred to VSU in 2009 after a two year stop at El Camino Community College. Head Coach David Dean is confident that both players can be successful in managing the Blazers offensive attack.

"We've got a lot of skill guys back on offense so they don't have to make all the plays for us they just have to manage the game and get the ball into the hands of those play makers and the other thing they've got to do is put us in good situations each and every play." said Dean.

"Anytime you have competition it's going to make whoever wins that job better. I think Russ has just got a tremendous amount of leadership ability. He knows our system he knows how to make plays."

Valdosta State kicks off the season at home on September 4th against Wingate. Kick off is 7:00.
