ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  A Lee County Commission candidate would like to see more services added at the County owned Grand Island and more fire fighters added to lower insurance rates.

District three Commission Candidate Lester Leggette says he'd like to see more family services offered at Grand Island.

Services at the golf course were cut back to bring the course that was costing the county back into the black. Leggette says if elected he'd also like to see the county add fire fighters to improve the county's Insurance Services Office rating.

Leggette realizes that could cost the county's already tight budget, but feels it can be done.

"It's going to be very hard to add services and not increase taxes, we can start by not taking expensive trips to have a public meeting 100 miles away. The commissioner could also say we're not going to take a raise. we can start by just tightening our belt on the management end."

Leggette believe the future of development in Lee County lies more along Highway 19 near Forrester Parkway than along Highway 82 near the Oakland Plantation development.
