ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Local candidates are also reaching out to voters.

Dean Phinazee is running for the district six seat on the Dougherty County School board.

Thursday he held a Health and Awareness exchange at an east Albany apartment complex. The former Educator says he's trying to make a change, putting the focus on health and education.

"We have nurses taking blood pressure, we have other presenters who are just making us aware of how our body and mind functions together. We also want to focus on CRCT and the graduation rate of our children and increase all of those," said Dean Phinazee, Dougherty School Board District 6 Candidate.

Phinazee brought in a local doctor to talk to the group about diabetes, high blood pressure and other health issues.

He is up against Darrell Ealum in the democratic primary.
