DAMASCUS, GA (WALB) -  Donations are being accepted to help the family of Georgia football player Shawn Williams.

Williams' family home in Damascus was destroyed by fire on Tuesday afternoon.

Shawn's parents Joe and Charlene Williams were at work in Camilla Tuesday when they were called and told their house was on fire.

The cause of the blaze is still unknown.

The money raised will help the family rebuild though they will never be able to replace the personal items such as photos and Shawn's athletic trophies.

Shawn Williams is a safety on the Georgia football team and in summer school in Athens.

His parents said they were able to talk their son into focusing on his school work and they credit head coach Mark Richt for helping their son deal with this tragedy.

Joe Williams said. "He told me he would be like a father to him when he get there. He is. He has done a lot for him and his other coaches are right behind him. Right now he has calmed down with everything and he is at peace."

After consulting with the NCAA, donations for the Williams family are being collected and must be deposited in a special account at the Bank of Early.

Donations can be sent to:
