CORDELE, GA (WALB) – It's a South Georgia Summer tradition, shopping at the farmer's market. And one of the state's busiest is in Cordele.
But vendors at the market say that their sales are down this year, although the number of people they see is about the same as in previous years.
They blame the economy, although produce picked up at a farmer's market is usually cheaper than it is in the grocery store. People who buy their produce at the market are helping the local economy by helping local growers.
Deborah Henderson of H.T. Melvin's Place said, "our Georgia farmers, they work hard and they're out there trying to make a living. People are buying outside of their state it really hurts our economy. And so therefore everyone should support the Georgia farmers.>
Henderson says peaches and tomatoes are always popular. The farmer's market in Cordele is open 365 days a year.
