Terry Coleman gives legislative update

May 15, 2003

Valdosta - The Georgia Speaker of the House says the legislative session was tough, but a success for South Georgia.

Terry Coleman gave a legislative overview to people in Lowndes County Thursday. He said even though the session has been criticized as unproductive, they actually passed 210 general bills. That's five more than in last year's session.

Coleman also addressed the controversial flag issue. "Georgia doesn't need this distraction," said Coleman. "We have more important issues like education and the economy, and should move on past the flag."

Flag protesters showed up outside the Valdosta County Club in opposition of Coleman's flag vote. They say they haven't given up on the issue. "We haven't forgot and we don't plan on forgetting," said Jack Bridwell, Protestor.

Coleman also spoke on the state's struggling budget but said with the new tobacco tax, we should soon be out of the recession.
