City personnel chief quits

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  The City of Albany's Human Resources director has resigned because of what she considers an 'intolerable work environment.'

Mary Lamont turned in her letter of resignation to City Manager Al Lott Monday.

Last month, Lamont filed an equal employment complaint against the city for race and gender discrimination, though the city has not received any additional information.

Lamont's resignation letter outlines some of the specifics. She claims Lott told her that being white will always be an "issue" for her, and that a "male authority" was needed to gain control of the women in the Human resources department.

Her resignation was effective yesterday.
