THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) –Several rainstorms and an oak tree's roots caused a drainage pipe on a busy Thomasville road to burst.

Crews temporarily repaired the underground pipe on Gordon Avenue near Neel street this weekend. The resulting holes caused closures as water pushed its way up onto the road.

Protective metal slabs now cover the holes but motorists may want to slow down because the road is still rough.

A representative with the City of Thomasville street department says the road will be closed for a week to completely replace the pipe.
