ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Dozens of people turned out to celebrate the re-opening of one of Albany's prized natural resources.
The first phase of the Radium Springs gardens project opened Monday morning. Visitors can walk through a courtyard in the footprint of the old Radium Springs Casino to get to the gardens and the springs.
The Casino was demolished in 2003. The springs have been fenced off since then.
The Radium Springs neighborhood association is thrilled to have access to the beautiful location again.
"The springs is always beautiful, even when it's flooded, it's a work of nature and to see the plantings, to see the original railings, to see the exposed stonework visible and still in tact after all these years, it's a thrill to know that it still exists and will exist for generations to come," said Fred Freeland, President of the Radium Springs Neighborhood Association.
The botanical gardens are open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from nine AM until five PM. The park is closed on Mondays for maintenance.
