Lady Eagles have new coach

May 15, 2003

The Sherwood Christian girls basketball team met their new coach today.

Gina Mitchell, a married mother of five, is moving to Albany from Tiftarea Academy where she led the Lady Panthers to 18 wins in her third season this year.

A native of Worth County, Gina Mitchell says leaving Tiftarea was not easy but she looks forward to taking over a Sherwood Christian program she saw first hand when the two schools were in the same region for her first two years of coaching the Lady Panthers.

One thing that stuck out most to Mitchell about the Lady Eagles was how they always got better year and year under then head coach Shelli Wall.

Gina Mitchell said "I feel like it would be hard to step into somebody's shoes like that but she has done a great job devloping a successful and respectable program here. I just want to take over where she has left off.

Shelli Wall resigned two weeks to take the assistant girls basketball coaching position at GISA statechampion Stratford Academy which is located in Wall's hometown of Macon.
