Albany trauma specialist say most of the trauma cases they see result from car crashes, and too many of those crashes are caused by distracted drivers. Now they're spreading a message in honor of Trauma Awareness Month.More >>
ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Being blind or visually impaired doesn't mean you can't be physically active. Albany Recreation and Parks is expanding the programs it offers to the visually impaired.
They are offering an out of sight fitness class for people with visual impairments at Jackson Heights, and a Ten Pin Bowling program at AMF Bowl-A-Rama.
They also offer baseball for the blind. It's called Beep baseball and uses a modified softball that beeps to let players know its location. Director Suzanne Davis said, "We want to make sure we have programs available for everyone in our community and especially people who may not have a program available anywhere else, so these are programs that people have come to us and requested and we're very happy to offer them."
There will be a Beep baseball exhibition game on July 24th.The bowling and fitness programs will run August through December. For information, call the recreation department at 430-5222.
