ALBANY, GA (WALB) –

Five men charged in a ang shootout outside the Carver Pool in South Albany are set to go on trial Monday.

Dozens of children were leaving the pool area as gunshots were fired last June.

23 year old Donald Winchester was hit in the side with a bullet.

Four men that prosecutors say are Southside Bloods, Jarnay Evans, Tchywaskie Jones, Brandon Taylor, and Dabkowski Luke, and one Crip, Jerry Lee Harris Junior are charged with street gang terrorism and aggravated assault.

District Attorney Greg Edwards says this trial is important in the fight against gang violence. "It's the worst possible place to have this kind of gang violence, as alleged. So it's important that this matter be brought to justice for that reason, if nothing, Edwards said."

Shaquanah Shade will also be on trial Monday, charged with hindering apprehension of a criminal and false statements. Sheriff's Investigators say she lied to them while searching for her boyfriend, Brandon Taylor.

If convicted the five charged gang members could be sentenced to 35 years in prison. Their trial begins Monday.
