Tifton woman struggles with terminal disease

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The illness is rare and terminal.

MSA is similar Parkinson's Disease and takes away fine motor skills from its victims.

A Tifton woman now struggling with the illness is also struggling to find resources to help her through it.

38-year-old Dana Brown has Multiple System Atrophy.

The disease makes it almost impossible for her to speak. And is slowly eating away at her facial expressionS.

MSA is an adult-onset progressive disorder which does widespread damage to the nervous system.

Since talking is so difficult she largely depends on text messages for communication.

Her son, neighbors, and friends help as much as they can. Brown said she is trying to find more resources in southwest Georgia to help her.

Right now hospice helps with one hour of home aid per day.

"It's frustrating not being able to talk for herself and depend on others for all of my needs," said Brown.

The disease will cause a host of health problems, there is no cure, and no way to prevent its progression.

Brown wants to spread the message about the disease and find more help than what she currently receives.

You can contact Dana Brown by texting her at (229) 326-5526 or e-mail her at dnab38@gmail.com.
