ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Choppy waters are blamed for the death of a Pelham man in the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday.

Fifty-six year old James Collins, the son for former State Revenue Commission Marcus Collins, was killed when he was thrown off a boat.

Florida's Fish and Wildlife Commission says the accident happened at the Mexico Beach Canal just before two o'clock yesterday afternoon.

They say the current was extremely rough and a large wave hit the 19 foot 2002 fiberglass model Trophy boat.

Collins was rushed to the hospital where he later died. 34 year old James Swilley was on the boat with him and wasn't injured.

Neither was wearing a life vest. An autopsy is being done to determine Collins' cause of death.
