COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Columbus Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the man they believe raped a local mother in her home.

The Department's Sex Crimes Unit had the 27-year-old female victim sit down with an artist and together, they compiled a sketch of the suspect.

The man is believed to be 30-35 years old, around 6'1", 165-200 pounds with dark blonde or light brown hair.

Officials in the Sex Crimes Unit say the victim went to check her mail on June 23rd at her home on Santee Court in the Sonoma Pointe subdivision off Blackmon Road. They say she came inside without locking her door and starting doing chores.

When she walked into her kitchen, police say an unknown man was standing there. While the man didn't appear to have a gun, investigators say he still threatened the woman, forced her into another room and sexually assaulted her- all with her 18-month-old child nearby.

The woman tells police she had never seen the suspect before the reported sexual assault.

If you recognize the suspect or have any information on this case, you're asked to call the Columbus Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit at 706-225-4406.
