Improving technology in Albany

May 13, 2003

Albany - The City of Albany wants to improve Cable TV and Internet access, and that means the city might get into those businesses.

A new task force is studying how to provide Internet access to every home, business, and school in Dougherty County. The task force will consider if the City should provide cable service to save customers from the rising cost of commercial Cable TV.

"We are not against the private sector handling these service, but we do want to make sure our citizens get the most for their money," said Mayor Tommy Coleman.

Coleman says the city must make sure its work force can use computers efficiently, since many jobs require knowledge of computers.
