LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) –A man is rescued by off a bridge on I-75 in Lowndes County after he attempts suicide.

A Lowndes County man was hanging over northbound traffic on the Exit 22 bridge on North Valdosta Road shortly before six this morning.

Northbound lanes and the bridge was blocked off to motorists as deputies tried stopping him from letting go of the rails. A Days Inn Employee saw what happened.

"I looked over the fence and there was a guy hanging from the left side of the bridge and just arguing with the cop and kind of wiggling back and forth and when the cop would come closer he would get very defensive," said Jason Vonkurzbach, a witness.

The men eventually gave in and let police pull him back up onto the bridge. He was taken to South Georgia Medical Center.
