ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The sky lit up over the marine base Friday night as thousands of south Georgians gathered to celebrate Independence Day with U.S. Marines.

This is the 16th year MCLB has opened the gates to the public for a Fourth of July Celebration.

The fireworks show was the culmination of an evening of family fun at the Marine Base. It's something many families look forward to each summer.

Last year, an estimated 12,000 people attend the celebration. Organizers expected a similar crowd on Friday.
