ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A powerful thunderstorm showed little mercy to some homes in Dougherty and Lee Counties. Strong winds tore off part of a roof on Mobile avenue in Albany. It flung parts of a carport into a tree.
" I started screaming and I called my husband because I could hear the wind and see the room just going away," said storm victim Deloris Levatt.
On Crawford Drive crews cut branches off a tree that uprooted and fell on the roof above Lakeya Barner's bedroom.
A tree snapped and landed on power lines on Akins lane in Lee county and knocked out power.
It also split part of a utility pole nearby. Neighbors say they didn't expect the damage to be so severe.
When trees threaten any power line nearby city and county maintenance crews are responsible for keeping them trimmed. Thousands of residents in southwest Georgia were without power earlier. Power companies say they've restored all power outages.
