ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  The Southwest Georgia Chapter and the Middle Flint Chapter are merging to form the Flint River chapter.

Offices in Americus and Albany will remain open, and the blended staff will include no layoffs and in some cases the addition of personnel.

Officials say the current economy requires Red Cross chapter to work together like never before to share resources to get the job done.

The organization is actively recruiting more volunteers, especially with the threat of hurricane season.
