Albany- Dougherty County students go for the gold, hoping to claim a spot on the Olympic podium. Dougherty County held the Spring Special Olympics Friday. Students competed in several events including track, walking and shot put.

Willie Williams has volunteered with the Special Olympics for two years. He says this event builds confidence and self-esteem. "This event is wonderful. It gives these students a chance to gain self-esteem and feel better about themselves. Now, they know they can do anything."

Winners from the Special Olympics will advance to the state competition.
