ALBANY, GA (WALB) -An Albany teenager leaves this weekend for a big mission with a group of some of the best and brightest students in the country.

A teacher nominated 13-year old Makenzie Bloing for a leadership program that will take her to New Orleans to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Among other activities, she will join more students to help build a school and volunteer at a soup kitchen.

"I'm glad it didn't hit here and it's so sad with all those people losing their homes," said Makenzie Bloing.

She will also get to meet former Secretary of State Condolezza Rice and New Orleans natives and NFL stars Peyton and Eli Manning.

Next summer, Bloing will take part in a seminar with former First Lady Laura Bush in Washington D.C.
