Dougherty Co.-- The base had two Generals in charge of two commands. Now they will have only one. The Albany Marine Base had one General for it's Materiel Command, and one General for it's Logistics Bases. Now the Marines have streamlined into the Marine Corps Logistics Command.

The base held a consolidation ceremony this morning. Brigidier General Richard Kramlich, the head of the Logistics Bases, and Major General Mark Lott, the Materiel Command head, folded the flags for their two separate operations.

Then a new flag was unfurled to represent the single organization, with General Lott in command. The bases mission will still be to maintain and distribute equipment for the Marine Corps.

"Sometimes when you have multiple staffs, there tends to be a layering. I think that may have had something to do with it. But I think the whole purpose was to make ourselves more efficient to serve the Marine Corps," said Brigadier Gen Richard Kramlich, Logistics Base Command.

"The base in Albany will deal directly with the command at Quantico, without having the headquarters over it," said Lt. Gen. R.L. Kelly, Deputy Commandant.

No civilian jobs will be lost due to the Marine command reorganization. After three years as the commander of the three Marine Logistics Bases, General Kramlich will transfer to Camp Pendleton to take charge of the First Service Support Group.
