Albany - A well-known chicken company is feeding the hungry in southwest Georgia. Tyson Foods donated 38,000 pounds of chicken to the Food Bank of Southwest Georgia. The donation is worth more than $40,000.
The Tyson Foods truck came 700 miles from Arkansas. Thursday's donation will provide 180,000 meals. Executive Director, Eddie Byrd, says, "This is a pretty significant donation, number one because it's meat, protein-rich meat and that's tough items for food banks to get."
Flint River Services donated frozen storage space to store the chicken. The Food Bank in Albany provides food and supplies to 300 non-profit agencies in 21 counties.
