THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) –Thomas County EMS held a special blood drive Tuesday in memory of one of their own.

The Annual Jeff Harris Memorial Blood Drive honored the paramedic who died three years ago from a job-related injury.

Harris donated a total of eight gallons of blood and also worked part time with the Southwest Community Blood center which helped collect blood Tuesday.

Organizers say the blood drive is a great way to honor Harris's memory.

"Most people who come out are with the fire department, Sheriff's, police department, EMS," says Thomas County paramedic and friend of Harris, Mike Morris. "Jeff had a lot of good friends that would come out and give.

Organizers of the blood drive will give out a Gator Medic trophy to the emergency service department with the highest participation.

They hope to have more than 100 people donate blood this year.
