South Georgia mayor resigns

By Ben Roberts - bio | email

DAMASCUS, GA (WALB) – The leadership void in a south Georgia city continues. The mayor of Damascus and one city council member have officially resigned. Mayor Vivian Pounder now lives out of state. Her resignation takes effect July first.

Three council members walked out of a meeting last week and said they quit, but only Bridget Wells has submitted a formal resignation letter so far. Assuming the others resign, Mayor Pro Tem Nathaniel Thompson will appoint two council members. The three of them will choose a fourth member. That new council will then choose one of the four members as Mayor and pick a fifth person to fill out the council.
