ALBANY, GA (WALB) – You won't see checks from the federal government much longer.
To save money most government payments must soon be deposited directly.
It's the latest in a series of cost-cutting measures by the Obama administration. It will cut out roughly $136 million checks from the social security Administration.
The deadline for the switch is about three years from now.
Taxpayers will save about $303 million the first five years.
People who don't have a bank account will get their money through a Debit MasterCard.
