Bainbridge - The woman accused of putting her newborn in the deep freezer will spend the next ten years in prison. After deliberating for 5 hours, juror found 42-year-old Melissa Ferguson of Decatur County not guilty of murder, but guilty of cruelty to children. Ferguson also plead guilty to concealing the death of another.

Superior Court Judge A. Wallace Cato sentenced Ferguson to ten years in a women's prison. Ferguson testified she crouched on her hands and knees for nearly 11 hours as she delivered the baby on her bathroom floor. She said she passed out and when she came to, she saw the baby dead with the umbilical cord wrapped its neck.
